Call for help from your local AAAC Wildlife Removal Wildlife Professional before the problem gets even worse at 832-793-6737.

Skunks are frequently found in residential areas. At AAAC Wildlife Removal, we frequently get calls from customers who want to get rid of skunks from their homes. But skunks are also excellent diggers who can burrow deep beneath homes in search of shelter and food. If skunks are not quickly removed, their burrows can result in massive damage to your foundation.

If a skunk has been on your property, you may be able to identify its tracks. These tracks are shaped like claws and are typically 2.5 in. long.

When skunks occupy a space, their feces can contaminate the area, causing serious problems for either your structure or the soil.

If you notice a skunk on your property, the best way to avoid damage is to contact an animal control expert.

Little-known Facts about Skunks:

  • A skunk can spray up to 10 ft. away from its body, and skunk odor can be smelled up to a mile and a half away.
  • The scientific name for skunks, Mephitis, actually means “stench” in Latin.
  • Due to their immunity to the venom, skunks can eat venomous snakes such as rattlesnakes.
  • While skunks have an acute sense of smell and hearing, ironically they are short-sighted, since their defense mechanism revolves around the bad odor they produce.
  • Regardless of the rumors, not every skunk has rabies. However, every mammal can spread the disease. If you think you have been in contact with an animal that has rabies, see a doctor.
  • Skunks will only spray to protect their young, and they will often give warning signs telling you to back away. These warning signs include lowering their heads, lifting their tails, arching their backs and stamping their feet.
  • From February through June, it’s not uncommon to see skunks crossing the road. Many skunks are hit by cars at night while they are out looking for a mate.
  • Skunks roll caterpillars on the ground to remove their hairs before eating them.

Managing a Skunk

Skunks give birth to their young in May, making the month a prime time for skunk spray! Mother skunks like to give birth in sheltered places such as porches. Since both the health of the young skunks and the anxious state of the mother skunk must be kept in mind, a den of young skunks must be approached with particular caution.

If you discover a skunk on your property, contact an animal control specialist. In many cases, trapping and removing a skunk is the necessary solution. At AAAC Wildlife Removal, we can guarantee that our professionals will not only thoroughly resolve the problems generated by skunk occupation, but they will do so in the most humane way possible.

Skunks like to die in strange places, and dead skunks can even be found within your walls. If a dead skunk is not promptly dealt with, the body can cause further damage to your building while attracting other pests. If you encounter a dead skunk on your property, contact a wildlife professional who can remove the body and then clean and deodorize the area.

If you need assistance with skunk control or removal, we are just a call away! The professionals at AAAC Wildlife Removal are your skunk control specialists.
